No matter what age we live in or what the year is parents are always concerned about their children’s safety. Unfortunately we live in an age where they really need to be concerned. Teen safety is a well known issue in the past few decades, but now more than ever. There is always the issue of school bullying, gang involvement, substance abuse and the biggest problem in the US, driving accidents. The biggest safety issue in the US currently is teen drivers, most of them are inexperienced and they cause the largest number of accidents and fatalities on the road. So the question is not are teenagers safe, the question is how can we make them safer?
Learning disabilities are a big problem for our youth and not just for them, but also for the entire nation and our economy. Over 10 million teens have some form of learning disability, which is something that can develop into a bigger problem if not solved early. Plus, a learning disability does not only affects a teenager and his grades at school; it can also lead to an increasing number of substance abuse, criminal behavior, joblessness and several other society issues. In the end that costs money all of us, but we need to give money in order to save money and to help those children. An average education cost per year for a child with learning disability is $10,000. That is much smaller than what an adult with learning disability costs the state.
Gangs and gang violence in the United States is on the rise, and one other thing that is on the rise is the number of teens joining gangs. According to the latest statistics, there are almost a million teenage gang members in the US in over 25,000 gangs. Those are some scary numbers, really scary numbers. So why do kids, teens go to those gangs? Most of the kids join the gang at the age of 12 to 14, and 1 out of 4 members of aging is a teenager, so what is it that makes them join a gang?
People are aware of rape as a rising problem in today’s society, and most people think that walking down the dark alley at night might get you in a position where some maniac will jump out of the shadows and try to rape you. Unfortunately the sad truth is that the biggest percentage of rapes occurring is known as date rape. There is no discrimination when it comes to date rape, both men and women suffer and get raped. Date rape or any form of rape is not about love, it never was, rape is an act of violence and nothing more.
