Treatment Center Management – Are They Governed by the Government?

Treatment Center Management – Are They Governed by the Government?

Parents who are looking into treatment center management usually want to know if it is governed by the government.  The answer is not necessarily.  The government provides guidelines for treatment center management, but nothing more.

This means that when searching around for information on a treatment management center you can’t assume that all of the material you come across is legitimate.  Remember, when it comes to the Internet there is really nothing much in the way of rules governing what people can publish on it.

Here are some tips to help you avoid fraudulent information:

It can be disconcerting to visit a search engine and type in a medical ailment only to receive millions of web pages with information.  It could take a parent forever to filter out the useful sites from the un-useful sites.  To better your search results you should use a search engine, such as Google or Yahoo, which offer health subsets to better pinpoint your search.  You should also become familiar with health information finding tools, such as MEDLINEPlus and Healthfinder.

Once you’ve learned the best way to do a search, you need to know how to tell the good information from the bad.  Here is a list of ways to do this:

1)  Find out who the site’s sponsor is (American Cancer Association, American Medical Association, etc…)
2)  Find out how current the information is and how often it is updated.
3)  Make sure that the information listed is touted as fact and is not just the opinion of some stranger.
4)  Lastly, find out who the information is generally provided to; medical professionals or consumers?

Following these four guidelines will help you to make a better determination as to if the information provided can be trusted.

There are thousands of treatment center management websites that can’t be trusted; however, there are plenty that can be.  The following link is a great resource for helping you find them:  HYPERLINK "http://www.mlanet.org/resources/userguide.html" http://www.mlanet.org/resources/userguide.html.
