ADHD Behavior Modification

One of the main challenges that people suffering from psychological disorders must contend with is the fact that they cannot always control their actions. This challenge is especially present in the lives of those who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  To counteract this challenge, it is usually necessary for sufferers to experiment with methods of ADHD behavior modification.

The most common form of ADHD behavior modification is stimulant medication.  Drugs like Ritalin, Dexedrine, and Adderall have been proven to help regulate the neurological processes of the brains of sufferers.  Stimulant medications will invigorate the sections of the brain which control impulse and behavior for these sections of a sufferer’s brain are less active than they should be.  While this method of ADHD behavior modification has proven to be successful, many sufferers are not fond of the idea of relying solely on medication.  Therefore, many of them opt for therapy.

With this method of ADHD behavior modification, sufferers express their frustrations and the individual challenges they contend with as a result of their disability.  An additional function of therapy is development of small ways to help the patient cope with their disability; things such as making lists to stay organized and breaking larger tasks into smaller portions are often successful methods of ADHD behavior modification.

Support groups act as a third method of ADHD behavior modification.    While this method is not equivalent with professional medical advice, many sufferers find it helpful.  Here sufferers congregate on a regular basis to express their emotions with peers.  This will help attendees to feel less alienated from the world.  Also, the coping skills they would learn in therapy might be discussed in their group.
