ADHD Behavior Management

One of the most challenging realizations that many Americans will face is the fact they have been diagnosed with a psychological disorder.  Following diagnosis by a trained professional, it is vital that sufferers take steps to counteract their particular disorder; this is especially true for those who must learn to cope with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  This disability usually reveals itself in the uncontrolled conduct of its sufferers; because this behavior can have an adverse impact upon their professional, social, and familial relationships, many sufferers must develop methods of ADHD behavior management.

It is imperative that sufferers understand that the symptoms and the severity of the symptoms associated with this disorder will vary per person; however, the majority of sufferers will have to endure some form of ADHD behavior management for their symptoms.  There are a variety of methods used for ADHD behavior management.   It would seem practical for the sufferer to experiment with both to find the best fit.  Before making this decision, sufferers should be aware that research on the subject has taught clinicians and therapists that the two most effective methods are medication and therapy.

In therapy, sufferers learn to identify and modify certain aspects of their conduct.  Common forms of ADHD behavior management include coping skills such as learning to organize tasks in list form, breaking large tasks into smaller ones, and completing assignments in brief intervals.

The second popular method of ADHD behavior management is medication.  The most commonly prescribed stimulant medications are Ritalin, Adderall, and Dexedrine.  These medications take the form of ADHD behavior management as they correct the chemical imbalance found in the brains of sufferers.  Of the two methods mentioned, research suggests that medication is the more successful form of ADHD behavior management.
