ADHD Attention Deficit

One of the major responsibilities of parenthood is rearing responsible and respectful offspring.  There is a stigma attached to the parents who raise children who are labeled as “bad seeds”.   More recently, physicians and scientists have come to the conclusion that a significant portion of those “bad seeds” might actually be children afflicted with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Children with an ADHD attention deficit problem are to often mislabeled as being unruly or disrespectful.  It is important that the public, as well as the parents of these children, come to understand that someone with an ADHD attention deficit is not hyperactive to challenge authority or intentionally irritate those around him.  Knowledge of this disorder should help to curb the stigmas attached to the afflicted children.

It is most important that people understand that someone with an ADHD attention deficit is not in control of their behavior.  Most sufferers would appreciate the ability to finish a homework assignment without getting distracted, to listen to a lecture without fidgeting, or to focus on the steps of a complex math problem.  However, their affliction often hinders their ability to perform these tasks.

It is also important to note that no amount of discipline will alleviate the symptoms of a child’s ADHD attention deficit.  Decades of research on this subject have proven that ADHD attention deficits are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.  The sections of the brain which control impulse are less active in the brains of those afflicted with this disorder.  Since this lack of control stems from their biology, sufferers cannot manage their symptoms just because someone gives them a stern lecture.  Having a better understanding of a child’s ADHD attention deficit should help to discredit the unwarranted “bad seed” label.
