ADD Improvement

During the past century, the fields of neuroscience and psychology have grown by leaps and bounds.  They have discovered and refined their definitions of various psychological disorders and, in turn, scientists have developed new and less invasive ways to combat some of the commonest disorders facing Americans today.  One such disability to benefit from over fifty years of research is Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).  While science is not quite advanced enough to completely remedy this disability, sufferers are relieved to know that there are definite methods of ADD improvement.

Years of study have shown that there are two major methods of ADD improvement.  These include medication and therapy.  Sometimes medication is prescribed without the support of therapy and vice versa, but they are usually used in conjunction.

Studies of the brain show that sufferers of this disability have an imbalance in their brain chemistry.  The areas of the brain which control impulse are, for reasons still unknown, less active than they should be.  Certain stimulant medications tend to counteract this imbalance and lead to ADD improvement.  The most effective medications and, therefore, the most commonly prescribed medications are Adderall, Dexedrine, and Ritalin.

In therapy, sufferers consult with a trained psychiatrist about methods of ADD improvement.  They learn to identify their abnormal behavior patterns and learn to cope with the emotional impact the disability can have.  Therapists will often give sufferers coping skills which ultimately lead to ADD improvement.  Standard skill sets can include the goal setting and list making; other helpful exercises can include waiting a day to make important decisions so sufferers do not give into their impulsive desires.

While therapy and medication both lead to ADD improvement, it is important to note that medication seems to be the more successful method.
