Marijuana useReply to this Comment
I wish I could give you advice. I have tried everything from grounding, taking away privileges, talking, and nothing works. My granddaughter is only 14 and she has been caught drinking at a friend's house, and now she is coming home from friend's houses reeking of marijuana. She is a bright, beautiful girl and we spend alot of time talking, and I know who alot of her friends are. I talk to alot of the parents. We have a nice home and we are good "parents". The only thing I feel we do wrong is spoil her. I'm at my wits end as to where to go from here. Grandma
Grandson smoking marijuana in bedroom closetReply to this Comment
My wife and I have been court appointed guardians for our grandson since he was 14 as a result of his being charged with felonies and placed on probation for 3 years. He is 17 and will finish is probation in a few weeks when he turns 18. During the 4 years he has lived with us, he has shown us little respect and has not recognized our authority. Couple days ago, while sitting at my desk in my study, I smelled marijuana. I have a very sensitive nose and know the smell very well. I found him smoking the maijuana in his bedroom closet. I had told him several times not to bring the stuff in my house. He is a high risk having the mariujana while on probation. My reaction was I became enraged and immediately told him to leave and in a tone that was as loud as the air in my lungs could make it. I was mad! I had put up with his disrespect for so long, this was the final straw-not just bringing it into my house but smoking it in my house. It was at night and cold outside. He left and I don't know where he went. As much as I was mad, I also was hurting deeply inside and later wept which does not happen very often. I don't know what the next weeks will bring in light of this incident and the end of his probation being near. Someone told me that he could contact CPS and report me since he is still a minor at 17. Maybe they are right. But I have put up with his abuse of me and my wife for 4 years and the smoking of marijuana in my house was the last straw. I have spent hundreds of hours with him over the last 4 years in juvenile workshops on anger management, drug workshops, and involvement with him in sports and school. His mother is our daughter who lives about 60 miles away, remarried after divorcing our grandson's natural father. We think he will stay with his father who lives near by but that is where our grandson was first exposed to drugs and marijuana.
