What to do when your teen needs help in school

What to do when your teen needs help in school

When your teen is failing school and you have tried everything you can do from home, it may be time to look outside of the home for help.  Keep an open line of communication with your child. At times this can be hard to do, as your teen will rebel and not want to come to you with their problems.  Teems feel that parents just don’t understand, when in reality they do.  Teens want to find advice from someone on their own level and they feel parents are out of their realm.

As a parent you have to know the signs to look out for when your teen is in trouble.  If their grades are dropping and they are pulling themselves away from family and friends, then you will want to look into what is going on.  Sometimes that is hard as your teen is pulling away from you.  If your teen will not open up to you, then you might want to seek the help of  their trusted friends.  Teens that are having trouble in school might be more apt to turn to their peers for help.

Many times teens feel they are misunderstood and they will not turn to family for help/ You need to be proactive in helping your teen.  Let then know what avenues are open for them. It may be necessary to point them in the right direction, as teens tend to lean on friends more than they do family.  Keep the lines of communication open between you and your teen.  Let them know that you are there for them, and no matter what, if you do not understand what they are going through, you will do your best to help them, work through their issues.  Teens do not always know when they need help, so as a parent, you need to watch for the sings that your teen needs help.
