Improving on Learning Skills in Teenagers
Lets face it, getting your teen to sit down and do homework can be a tiring experience. As we all know, a teens social life most of the time is the most important thing. If you start early, teaching your child good study habits they will stick with them for years to come. You don’t want to make learning a boring or forced task for a teenager. They will most likely fight you tooth and nail if they feel pushed to do something they are not wanting to do. Many times if your teen is having trouble in a particular class, they will be reluctant to seek help for fear of embarrassment. They feel tat parents have high expectations and they don’t want to let their parents down.
Do not set unrealistic goals on your teen. Start early in their life and set some ground rules for when they are working on homework. One rule that is proven to increase your teens concentration is give your teen time to unwind right after school. They have been there for the greater portion of the day and need some time to get refreshed. Give them one hour of relaxation when they get home from school. Next you will want to get the TV turned off as this will help them stay focused on the task at hand.
Sit down with them and see what it is that they are working on. Let them know that you are there to help them, remember this is a learning experience and children learn what they see. If they see you are interested in what they are learning and that you are willing to help them, they will show more of an interest in their school work. They will feel proud of their accomplishment and they will know that they can come to you when they are having trouble.
