How to Help your Teen Improve in their School Performance
Your teen’s school performance and attendance is very important and it is equally important for you to stay on top of these to ensure your teen is where he or she should be academically. You need to know about the school your teen attends and the teachers your teen works with daily. Make sure to attend parent teacher meetings regularly to keep up with your teen’s progress. This will ensure that you know what areas your teen needs help in and what areas he or she is excelling in.
Keep the lines of communication open between you, your child and the school. Showing an interest in what they are learning lets them know that you care about what they are doing and that you are there to help should the need arise. Try not to take the criticizing approach when your child brings home bad grades. Make the poor test a learning opportunity. You can see where they are going wrong and what they need help in. If your teen’s problems with certain classes are out of your realm, then you may want to look into after school tutoring programs or maybe extra credit assignments. Be up front of what you expect of your teen at school.
If your teen works a part time job make sure that is clear if the job interferes with schoolwork, then you may have to rethink the job. School should be first priority, and if your teen’s grades start to drop after they take on the job, it may be too much for them. Your teen’s school performance will be in tiptop shape if you stay involved and help them when needed. Teens thrive on praise and they are happy when you are happy. Help them keep good study habits and review homework with them.
